Gymnasium Performance & Event Audio System

Project Overview

A performance-grade audio rig in the SVA gymnasium, built to handle assemblies, chapels, sporting events, and theatrical productions in an acoustically challenging multipurpose space.

The Challenge

The gym needed to function as a true multipurpose space — basketball, assemblies, theatrical performances, and worship services — but the hard surfaces and high ceilings created significant echo, and the system had to be simple enough for non-technical staff to operate without training.

Our Solution

RTZ installed a QSC PLA line array system with three boxes per side and a center subwoofer, paired with a Q-SYS digital sound processor and an Allen & Heath SQ-series mixing and recording console. Twelve channels of Shure ULXD4Q wireless microphones cover a full cast or panel. A wall-mounted AV rack and two Grundorf storage cases protect the gear from gym activity, and acoustic sound panels were added to tame the room's reflectivity. Day-to-day control runs through a single Q-SYS touch panel for clean, simple operation.
